Life is a Masquerade

I’ve been thinking about these Venetian dies for some time and I really wanted to make a mask card  with them.  I have a really nice set of clear stamps from ‘Clear-2-You’ called ‘Masquerade’, – BK-HA013.   I stamped the large mask and two of the small twin masks with ‘Versafine’ Black Onyx, and glittered the eyes and the teardrop on the large mask  with ‘Rangers’ Silver Stickles.    The 8x8 card was covered in blue pearlescent paper from my stash.  I then cut a strip of harlequin card and added a piece of black ribbon down the middle.  I cut two ‘Spellbinders borders from the ‘Venetian Accents’ and put them on both sides of the harlequin card.  To that, I added the third largest ‘Spellbinders label 28’ with my sentiment typed on to it.  I cut the mask from ‘Spellbinders ‘Venetian Accents’ and cut it down the centre and snipped it slightly so I could add another piece cut and trimmed from the ‘Venetian Motifs.  In this way I was able to enlarge the mask and make it fit my large stamped mask.  I added some small pieces to the nose piece and some gems, a blue feather and a little black ribbon at the crown of the mask.  I layered the completed mask on to the third largest ‘Spellbinders Decorative Ovals’ which was tucked under the right hand Venetian border.  The rest of the card was decorated with small pieces from the Accents and Motifs – there are endless ways to use these small pieces because they will often clip on to other Spellbinders (as in the picure, the small heart shaped motifs clipped on to labels 28 easily.  All the dies were cut using Centura Pearescent White except the two pieces clipped onto the label which were cut from a matt black card.  By the way, I do not find it easy to cut the Centura but I persevere with it because I really like it – sometimes you would have to run it through your machine two or even three times, rotating it slightly before it cuts cleanly.

I had so many ideas that it was difficult for me to decide how to use these dies – if you buy them, you will not regret it – they are beautiful.  However, you have to be patient when removing your card and I find it helpful to spray the dies with beeswax polish and then dry them with a soft cloth which renders them easier to eject.  Some people use wax paper or baking parchment and these are helpful too.  I added the small twin masks to the corners of the card.  Hope you like it and I think I’ll be posting a few more of these ‘Venetian Creations’.  Bye for now.

what a creative and very unusual card. The attention to detail is obvious and the way you have designed it is lovely. It is not easy to put so many lovely dies together that work which this does. Love the little masks on the edges and the mask on top of a mask. Brill. Can't wait to see what is next x
